Coal Harbour in Vancouver, BC
I've often wondered what our beautiful city would look like if you could see the amazing night sky behind it. There's so much light coming from the city that you can see it from miles away and it makes it nearly impossible to see the stars.
Using the Expose to the Right technique (ETTR) along with a second exposure for the foreground I was able to find that there are indeed stars up there. Imagine if everyone turned out their lights and the city went dark for a few moments. This is perhaps what you would see, if not more.
The trees in the foreground are Stanely Park with Cypress Mountain silhouetted in the background. The light beams coming out from behind the trees are from Lions Gate Bridge. The building at the far left is the Vancouver Yacht Club.
